Day 1
Module 1
Occupational Health and Safety Legislation & AS 2865
- The Legislation and the Australian Standard AS 2865
- Defining a Confined Space
- Responsibilities of management, employees, contractors and all parties
- Strategies for implementing the Confined Space Legislation
- Consultation and negotiation process for confined space safe work procedures
Module 2
Confined Space Hazards
- Hazard identification, risk assessment and control
- Workplace hazards and confined space hazards
- Confined Space equipment orientation
- Ropes, knots and equipment set up
Module 3
Safe Work Procedures
- Implementing safe work procedures
- Carrying out risk assessments
- Control measures
- Confined Space entry permits
- The Confined Space management system
Module 4
Equipment Use Practical
- Set up and use confined space equipment, including tripods, harness, rope rescue devices and recovery equipment
Day 2
Module 5
Atmospheric Hazards & Gas Detection
- Assessing atmospheric hazards
- The respiratory system
- Toxic gases, their effects and safe exposure levels
- Explosive gases/vapours and safe exposure levels
- Oxygen hazards and safe exposure levels
- As detection equipment, operation, safe use field calibration
- How to test for suspected atmospheric hazards that are beyond your current equipment capabilities
Module 6
Breathing Apparatus
- Types of breathing equipment and their application
- Operation & expected duration
- Correct donning procedures
- Practical use & individual consumption rates
- General maintenance and hygiene
Equipment Use Practical
- Practical training using SCBA including, donning, working in and removing SCBA
- Set up and use confined space equipment, including tripods, harness, rope rescue devices and recovery equipment. Conduct non toxic rescue.

Module 7
Emergency Procedures & Life Support
- Emergency Procedures
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
Module 9
Fire Fighting
- Elements of the fire triangle
- Methods of extinguishing a fire
- Hazards with fighting a fire in a confined space
- Extinguishing a fire using fire extinguishers
Module 8
Safe Entry Exit Procedures & Practical Rescue
- Review of risk assessment
- Completion of the Confined Space Entry Permit
- Set up and use entry/exit equipment
- Carry out rescue scenarios
